“20th Anniversary of WSRP 1939” Medals Awarded to the Leadership of the Katyn Museum
On 12 December 2024, the Warsaw Association of the Police Family 1939 (WSRP 1939) held its traditional Christmas wafer meeting in the State Security Corps Hall at Police Headquarters. The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Police, institutions and organisations cooperating with the Association, as well as descendants of officers of the pre-war State Police and people involved in preserving the memory of pre-war Polish police officers. Among the distinguished guests were the Commander-in-Chief of the Police, Police Lieutenant General Marek Boroń, the Warsaw Metropolitan Police Commander, Police Inspector Dariusz Walichnowski, and the Director of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Police, Police Inspector Robert Żółkiewski.
The meeting provided an opportunity to present medals and distinctions to individuals who have made a significant contribution to the work of the Warsaw Association of the Police Family 1939. The leadership of the Katyn Museum was among those honoured. Sebastian Karwat, Head of the Katyn Museum, and Dr Bartłomiej Bydoń, Head of the Museum’s Research and Education Section, were awarded the “20th Anniversary of WSRP 1939” Medal.
The distinction recognises the Katyn Museum’s commitment to preserving and promoting the memory of State Police officers who fell victim to Soviet repression and crimes. Of particular importance is cooperation between institutions and organisations involved in documenting history, historical education, and commemorating the victims of the Katyn massacre and other crimes committed against Polish citizens in the East.
The ceremony concluded with a prayer, the traditional sharing of the Christmas wafer, the exchange of Christmas wishes and a festive reception.
