Cooperation with the Forensic Laboratory of the Military Gendarmerie

On 9 July 2025, representatives of the Katyn Museum visited the Forensic Laboratory of the Military Gendarmerie. The visit marked another stage in a long-standing collaboration focused on the examination of burial artefacts and their attribution to specific victims of the Katyn massacre.
By employing modern technologies, including 3D digital scanning, digital microscopy and advanced document analysis techniques, it has been possible to:
– recover previously illegible inscriptions on documents,
– identify numbers on military decorations,
– analyse markings found on everyday personal items belonging to the victims.
These are highly significant efforts that help restore the identity and memory of those who perished in the Katyn massacre.
The collaboration will continue.
