Distinguished Cadets of the 2025 Commissioning Class of the Polish Naval Academy at the Katyn Museum
On 5 June 2025, following the commissioning ceremony at the Royal Castle in Warsaw, newly commissioned officers of the 2025 graduating class of the Polish Naval Academy visited the Katyn Museum in Warsaw. The tour of the permanent exhibition, as well as the temporary exhibition “Evidence of crimes – documents excavated from mass graves in Mednoye, Kharkiv and Katyn”, was guided by Dr Bartłomiej Bydoń, Head of the Museum’s Scientific Section.
Five years of study at the Polish Naval Academy represent a period of intensive military training, academic education, and professional preparation for future service as commissioned officers. This culminated in the awarding of academic diplomas, officer commissions, and promotion to the rank of ensign. The visit to the Katyn Museum, held alongside these celebrations, provided an opportunity to reflect on the continuity of tradition and the values that shape successive generations of officers of the Polish Armed Forces, as well as on the significance of service, remembrance, and responsibility. The museum visit also symbolically connected the officers with the ethos and traditions that have long formed the foundation of military service.
The visit additionally provided an opportunity to present commemorative medals to the Director of the Katyn Museum, Sebastian Karwat, and to Dr Bartłomiej Bydoń.
