On 10 May at 5:00 p.m., the official launch of Janusz Matusiak’s latest book, “Obiecali, że wrócą… Żyrardowskiej Listy Katyńskiej ciąg dalszy” [in English: They Promised They Would Return… The Continuation of the Żyrardów Katyn List], took place at Resursa in Żyrardów.
The new publication expands upon The Żyrardów Katyn List, first released in 2020. In this updated edition, the author revisited and reworked previously available materials, supplementing them with newly discovered information. The book now contains more than 270 biographical profiles of victims of the Katyn Massacre connected with Żyrardów.
The publication presents the stories of people who were born in the town, as well as those who lived and worked there before becoming victims of the Soviet crime.
A particularly valuable aspect of the book is the inclusion of materials obtained through cooperation with the Katyn Museum, which granted access to its archives for the purposes of updating and expanding the list. As a result, this new edition is considered one of the most comprehensive regional studies dedicated to the Katyn Massacre.
The special guest of the event was Tomasz Szczepański, curator at the Katyn Museum, who spoke about the work involved in documenting the crime and the museum’s role in preserving the memory of its victims.
