On 25 October 2025, the Katyn Muzeum in Warsaw hosted the Grand Final of the 5th National Historical Competition for Young People, “Katyn 2025: Anniversary Newspaper”, organised by The St Joseph Calasanz Association “Parafiada” (Stowarzyszenie Parafiada im. św. Józefa Kalasancjusza).
More than 200 pupils from across Poland took part in this year’s Katyn competition, creating remarkable commemorative newspapers that paid tribute to the victims of the unprecedented NKVD crime committed 85 years ago. Through their work, pupils from both primary and secondary schools honoured the memory of those who lost their lives and demonstrated a deep engagement with this important chapter of history.
During the Grand Final ceremony, editorial teams behind the highest-rated newspapers were presented with commemorative statuettes, while each aspiring young journalist received a diploma and a prize. Every participant attending the event was also given a relay baton — a powerful symbol of the intergenerational passing on of knowledge about the Katyn massacre and its victims, as well as a shared responsibility to preserve the memory of those murdered in Katyn, Kharkiv, Tver, Kyiv, and other sites of execution in the East. All competition participants were awarded certificates of participation.
A special exhibition was prepared for the occasion, showcasing the newspapers that received the highest marks from the Jury, curated by Adrianna Gajdziszewska. In addition, each of the winning newspapers was printed in a limited commemorative edition of ten copies, creating a lasting record of the students’ work and dedication.
