Meeting with the Author of „Lotniczka. Opowieść o Janinie Lewandowskiej”

On 26 February 2026, the Katyn Museum hosted a presentation of Agata Puścikowska’s book „Lotniczka. Opowieść o Janinie Lewandowskiej” [The Aviatrix: The Story of Janina Lewandowska]. The event, organised in cooperation with Znak Publishing House, attracted considerable interest and brought together a wide audience of history enthusiasts.
The meeting was chaired by Patrycja Michońska-Dynek, and featured a reading of an excerpt from the book by the actress Małgorzata Ostrowska-Królikowska. Also in attendance were Dr Ewa Kowalska from the Institute of National Remembrance’s Office for Search and Identification, and Grzegorz Jazdon from the Greater Poland Insurgents Museum in Lusowo, both of whom served as academic consultants for the publication.
We warmly encourage readers to explore this compelling account of the life of Janina Lewandowska, daughter of General Józef Dowbor-Muśnicki. Although she had once aspired to become a pianist, she ultimately chose a career in aviation. The skies became her passion, and she flew both gliders and aeroplanes. Following the outbreak of the Second World War, she was taken prisoner by Soviet forces and, in 1940, became the only woman to be murdered in the Katyn massacre. She was just 32 years old.
