Mr Eugeniusz Taradajko’s Visit to the Katyn Museum

On 16 October, the Katyn Museum welcomed a group of guides from Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society (PTTK), accompanied by Mr Eugeniusz Taradajko, an expert and documentarian who served on the Polish Governmental Exhumation and Research Commission in 1991 and again from 1994 to 1996. During this period, the Commission conducted investigations into the Soviet crime committed at Katyn, as well as newly identified burial sites in Mednoye and Kharkiv.
Visitors had the opportunity to hear Mr Taradajko’s first-hand account of the survey and exhumation work carried out at these sites. His testimony provided valuable insight into the recovery of personal belongings and artefacts from the mass graves — many of which are now preserved and displayed as part of the Museum’s permanent exhibition.
During his visit, Mr Taradajko also donated to the Museum’s collection surplus Polish Red Cross identification tags, marked “KATYŃ 372” and “MIEDNOJE 1754”. These tags were produced in 1995 for attachment to exhumed remains during the exhumation works conducted in Katyn and Mednoye. Their inclusion in the Museum’s collection contributes to the documentation of the identification and commemorative processes associated with these investigations.
