Museum game “Young Explorers” at the Katyn Museum on the occasion of Warsaw Citadel Day

On 4 July 2026, the Katyn Museum once again joined the celebrations of Citadel Day, inviting visitors to discover history together.
For the first time, both the museum exhibition space and the external architecture of the Museum became the setting for a family-oriented museum game entitled “Young Explorers”, designed for children and young people. Participants, taking on the roles of explorers and archaeologists, often with the support of parents or grandparents, moved through the exhibition and the grounds of the Katyn Museum, completing tasks and solving puzzles. The search for hidden objects, the analysis of clues, and the discovery of successive elements of the museum narrative offered an engaging way of exploring the past. While locating exhibits, participants noticed their connections to everyday objects that once accompanied both the individuals commemorated at the Katyn Museum and their ancestors. This helped them to better understand the realities of life in past generations, which differed significantly from contemporary experiences. The game fostered curiosity about family history and provided an opportunity for intergenerational integration.
We would like to thank all participants for their active involvement, engagement, and time spent together. We congratulate the winners who completed all tasks correctly in the shortest time, as well as all young explorers who finished the game. We also extend our thanks to the parents and grandparents of younger participants – raising awareness of history embedded in museum objects helps shape civic and patriotic attitudes, and provides an opportunity to reflect on what is most important for past and future generations: heroism.
