Poland’s National Independence Day at the Polish Army Museum
This year’s National Independence Day celebrations at the Polish Army Museum were particularly significant, as they took place for the first time at the Museum’s newly opened headquarters in the Warsaw Citadel. To mark the occasion, the Museum prepared a wide range of educational activities and historical displays, offering visitors an opportunity to learn more about key events in the history of the Polish Armed Forces.
Among these events was a lecture on the Katyn Massacre delivered by curator Piotr Skotnicki at the Polish Army Museum’s exhibition. The presentation introduced visitors to one of the most tragic chapters in Polish history – the 1939 Defensive War and the Katyn Massacre – while highlighting the importance of preserving the memory of its victims.
The lecture also provided an opportunity to present the activities of the Katyn Museum, the Martyrdom Branch of the Polish Army Museum, encouraging participants to visit this unique institution and deepen their understanding of the massacre and the fate of the Polish officers murdered by the NKVD.
