Screening of “Katyn” by Andrzej Wajda in Prague

On 15 April 2026, a screening of Katyń, directed by Andrzej Wajda, took place in Prague at the Ponrepo Cinema. The event was organised by the Polish Institute in Prague in cooperation with the National Film Archive.
The screening was preceded by an introductory lecture delivered by Dr Bartłomiej Bydoń, who provided the audience with historical context surrounding the Katyn massacre, as well as insight into its portrayal through the director’s retrospective perspective. The talk emphasised the importance of shared social and generational memory, of which Andrzej Wajda was a key representative.
Prior to the screening, archival footage from a German newsreel dated April 1943 was also shown, including material documenting the work of the Technical Commission of the Polish Red Cross in Katyn. The event attracted a considerable audience interested not only in cinema, but also in the historical context of the Katyn massacre and the involvement in the exhumations of Professor František Hájek of Charles University and Professor František Šubík of Slovak University.
