On 25 June 2025, soldiers from the Epidemiological Response Centre of the Polish Armed Forces visited the Katyn Museum in Warsaw – a place of profound historical significance dedicated to commemorating the victims of the Katyn massacre.
The museum’s extensive collection, including documents, archival photographs and numerous personal belongings of those murdered, left a lasting impression on the visitors. Particularly moving were the everyday objects once owned by the victims, offering poignant testimony to the tragic fate of Polish officers and members of the country’s intellectual elite.
For the soldiers, the visit was not only an important encounter with history, but also an opportunity for reflection on the meaning of service to one’s country, the values of patriotism, and the responsibility that comes with wearing the Polish military uniform. It was a valuable and thought-provoking lesson in history – one that every soldier should experience and carry with them.
The group was guided through the museum’s remarkable exhibition by Dr Tomasz Szczepański, who provided historical context and shared the stories of the victims of the Katyn massacre, helping participants gain a deeper understanding of this tragic chapter in Polish history.
