Visit of the Accademia della Guardia di Finanza Delegation

On 11 March 2024, the Katyn Museum – the Martyrology Branch of the Polish Army Museum – welcomed a delegation from the 51st Senior Officers’ Course of the Accademia della Guardia di Finanza of the Italian Republic. The delegation, led by Lieutenant General Bruno Buratti, Major General Francesco Mattena and Brigadier General Gianluca De Benedictis, met with Professor Bogusław Pacek, Director of the Polish Army Museum, and Sebastian Karwat, Head of the Katyn Museum.
Following a guided visit to the museum, Lieutenant General Bruno Buratti, on behalf of both himself and the officers of the Guardia di Finanza, together with Police Inspector Robert Żółkiewski, Director of the Cabinet of the Commander-in-Chief of the Polish Police and representative of the Commander-in-Chief, laid floral tributes at the Katyn Epitaph memorial and wreaths beneath the “Katyn Cross” on behalf of the two partner services. The visit concluded with the reading of a message reflecting on war crimes and the significance of the Katyn massacre for contemporary Europe. In his address, Lieutenant General Bruno Buratti also referred to the history of Guardia di Finanza officers who were murdered by the Germans during the Second World War.
